Clerical Error Recruits 78 Year Old Woman

Santa Clarita Woman, 78, Asked To Enlist As Marine

Click HERE to see Video of story. It is so cute.

AP) SAUGUS, Calif. Sonia Goldstein was flattered by the nice recruiting letter asking her to consider becoming one of "the few, the proud."

But at age 78, she thinks she may be just a little old to enlist in the Marine Corps.

The letter told her the corps could use her unique language skills, but also warned that life as a Marine would test her physical and mental abilities.

Goldstein says she'll do whatever she can for her country, but this is kind of stretching it .

The Marines ordinarily recruit people 18 to 27, says Major Joseph Kloppel, a Corps spokesman. He says the letter must have been sent by mistake.

Sonia Goldstein, 78, thought it was hilarious when she received a recruitment letter from the Marine Corps. She said " Uncle Sam wants me I just don't want KP duty. I would do whatever I could for this great country we live in."

Wild Thing's comment.....

I had to post about this story because the timing is so perfect. haha Plus what a dear woman she is and she was so excited to get the letter from the Marines even if by mistake. ( big smile)
The reason the timing is so funny to me is because this last week I looked in the phone book and called the Marine recuitment office here in town. I asked them if they needed anyone to answer phones, make coffee etc. I also told the Marine on the phone that I was an expert marksman with almost any gun I have ever used. The man was so nice and said they had one of their own that answered the phone, did filing etc. And that depending on my age I

He said with a lot of kindness in his voice ( you know when you can tell the person is smiling by his voice on the phone) thank you for offering we are here to protect you and we appreciate your desire to serve.

I thanked him and told him how proud I was of his service to our country.

So I really giggled when I saw the Marines had sent this lady older then I am a letter. I bet she saves it.

Your one sentence sorta drops off in mid stream
'depending on my age'........

Here's sumpin to think about. If the MarCorps recruiter is close you should go by there and
beg for some freebee recruiting thingies. Decals and stickums for car windows that peel right off. If you have a scrapbook let them look at it so they can appreciate who you are and where you are coming from. I'm sure they'd give you anything once they met you and knew what a supporter you are.

I am SERIOUS, please give it some thought. If nuttin' else a hug from a gorgeous woman will always make a man's day. Even a gyrenes!

THEN, you can give us allllllll an update.

Course you could do the same at the other branches. Sailors get lonely too you know. GGGGG

Oh yes, that was WONDERFUL what you tried to do!
Once they see you that other person will be looking for a job! Heck they'll set all sorts
of recruiting records once the word gets out that WT is working there.

God bless you WT for what you always do for our
troops.

I would be too shy to walk in with one of my scrapbooks giggle.
But I will make some cookies and take them to each one that is in town, that would be ok. I will go to each one to be fair and let them know not only about how much I support them but all of you on here too.
I always take cookies at Christmas to the fire station near our house but for this with the troops I won't wait till Christmas.

My back window on my car I have a decal for each branch and another sticker that says..."Freedom is not free" so they might see that too when I park my car.

Thanks SparkS for the idea. I know they can't hire me but the man was very nice when he said no. haha

Sparks has an excellent idea. Tell him you were the lady who called on the phone and offered to help around the office. Bring some pictures of you with Bob Hope in Vietnam. Once they find out about your background and how you were with Bob Hope in Vietnam, I would think they would be honored to meet someone who served and honored our military.

Too shy? You have to be kidding me! You entertain
1000's of our troops in a war zone and you are too
shy? I might be easy but I'm sorry kiddo I'm NOT buying that one. Anywho you are unanimously voted down. Take some pics of what you did. Those jarheads
ummmmm gyrenes will be pleased as punch to meet a
true legend. The cookies idea is terrific. If they are busy ask if you can leave the scrap book with them and you can go pick it up when they are done.
Tell you what else I would do. Give them an invitation to come to Theodores World. The'll feel right at home here and can get an inkling of who you are. They'll know they are among friends and brothers. Soooooooooooooooo forget that SHY bologna and make it happen. Hut Hut

(Heck they might even make you an honorary Marine. Now wouldn't THAT be sumpin?)
